“Lopen, you’re looking smart,” Atsara said, comfortably sitting beside me.
“Who is smarter,” I asked, “you or me?”
“Obviously you,” he pondered for a moment, “no, no — I’m the smartest.”
I requested a picture, and after clearing his throat, he immediately granted my simple wish. He even embraced me warmly.
Folks, who really has the best mask? We are all wearing our own masks, and therefore, it’s difficult to assume or predict the truth hidden behind them. Perhaps both the wooden mask and the flesh mask are deceptive. What you and I see may not be a true revelation of what lies within those two false faces.
We often look at Atsara with a sense of contempt, assuming his only role is to entertain — a mere laughing stock. Yet, without him, a festival feels incomplete. But the question remains: are we certain he’s truly meant to be a joker? Or could there be a deeper, concealed reason behind his role — something we fail to see?
Our lives are filled with preconceived notions, limiting us from discovering the actual truth. We perceive things not as they are, but as we are, and perhaps that is the root cause of our confusion and suffering.
Our assumed perceptions are like masks — they hide our true identity. Life has never been a cup of tea, and it never will be. Yet, we should not lose hope when things don’t go our way. Sometimes, what we wish for does come true — just through a path we never expected.
